How to choose living room furniture

Your living room is an important space because it is where your family spends most of their time. Therefore, it is advisable to choose furniture that is comfortable and strong. Here are some tips on how to choose living room furniture.

Take measurements – Measure the length and width of your room. Make sure to account for all the recessed spaces in the room.

Create a floor plan – Sketch your space out on a notebook, jotting down the dimensions you measured.

Plan – Sketch out how much space you can spare for furniture. Factor in at least 1 meter between pieces.

Check your doorways – You should know how large your doorways are, to ensure that the furniture you choose can be delivered without any mishaps.

Stage your living room – Mark the spaces you intend to place your furniture, to help you visualize how the room will look.

Know how you will use the room – If you have children and will be using your living room throughout most of the day, you will need sturdy, stain resistant furniture in good quality fabrics.

Note the room’s natural architecture – Make sure you note any built-in designs your room may contain. For example, a fireplace or wall detailing.

Start with the basics – Start with purchasing the basics like a sofa, armchair, side table, and coffee table. Once you have purchased and placed these pieces, you can add extra pieces to your space, like an ottoman or bean bags.
